I have travel on my mind these days, and I have been reminiscing about past trips. Five years ago Mr. O and I were lucky enough to visit Salzburg, Austria. He worked his butt off for months and was rewarded with a company trip. And significant others (we weren’t married yet) were able to go along. Score!!
This was our first (and so far, only) trip to Europe. I’m sure we looked like typical American tourists, walking around glassy-eyed with our mouths hanging open. We stayed at the Hotel Goldener Hirsch – a 600 year old hotel!!! How crazy is that? And it was just gorgeous! (Even though the guys who were over six feet tall struggled a little bit in the stairwells. I think people must have been shorter way back when.)
We had all sorts of fun outings, like visiting the salt mines, touring the city of Salzburg on foot, visiting the beer gardens to have the fresh brew crafted by the local monks, and traveling into Germany to go to the Eagles Nest (Hitler’s summer home in the Alps – charming, no?) Below is a little photo montage of our trip…

It was truly an incredible trip! After the Salzburg trip, we extended our stay to spend a few days on the Italian coast in Sorrento, and also visited the village where my great-grandfather was born and raised before coming to America. I mean, how often are we going to get to Europe?
Tune in next Travel Tuesday for the photos from Italy.
Have you ever had a trip of a lifetime? Where did you go?
