This post could also fall under the category of Tasty Tuesday, because today I’m talking about some of the awesome food I found on our latest trip to Key West.
The first half of our trip, we stayed at Cypress House, a great inn on Caroline Street…
I highly recommend it.
The trickiest part about Key West for us is breakfast. Mr. O is a bit of an early riser, and there are only a couple of places that start breakfast before 8 or 9am. Luckily, Harpoon Harry’s was right down Caroline Street, and their doors open at 6:30! Great food, great prices, and great service! Plus, at that time of the morning, it is just locals and boat captains, so the atmosphere is great as well. And you never know who will join you…
This little guy came trucking in to sit with us our first morning at Harpoon Harry’s. He was a beautiful, healthy cat that was obviously someone’s pet who likes to escape in the morning to go visiting. We saw him a few other mornings, but this was the only day he spent with us. He reminded me so much of our cat Oliver, who is no longer with us. So sweet.
On Duval Street, there are a few other great breakfast spots. Croissants de France has a beautiful outdoor dining patio and makes perfect poached eggs and bacon. They also have a bakery attached with fresh brioche, croissants, and all sorts of other pastry goodies. The Banana Cafe is a cute little place on the corner of Duval and Louisa with a friendly staff and a big menu of daily specials.
The Southernmost Beach Cafe has a great breakfast, white sand beach and the best sunrise view – the Atlantic Ocean!
They also, in my humble opinion, have the best pina coladas…
…and the best coconut shrimp…
…on the island. We also stopped there for lunch, and their grilled shrimp and avocado wrap was delicious, washed down with a refreshing iced tea. Yum!
There just isn’t enough room to talk about all of the great food in one post. I’ll be back with more next time.
